October is a time to get outdoors and enjoy nature. It is also a time to not take yourself seriously, and have fun!
Are you up for the October Challenge? If so, try some of these suggestions to enjoy the month!
Watch a Halloween Movie
Some of my favorites are:
- Hocus Pocus
- The Craft
- Practical Magic
- Nightmare Before Christmas
- The Addams Family
- Beetlejuice
Go Pumpkin Picking
Once you pick your pumpkin, try:
- Carving a pumpkin
- Using the pumpkin as a vase for a floral arrangement
- Decorate your front stoop
- Roast the seeds
- Use the inside for baking
Explore Locally
Why not check out these options for fall festivities and supporting local businesses:
- Visit a vineyard and go wine tasting
- Go apple picking
- Shop at a local farm stand for in-season produce
- Taste a variety of beers at a brewery
- Buy a fresh pie at a local bakery
- Drive around and view the fall foliage (check out the list of Top Places to See Fall Foliage in North America here)
Dress Up for Halloween
I love getting dressed up for Halloween, especially with home-made costumes. To give you some inspiration, some of my costumes from Halloweens past are:
- Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy
- Ursula the Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid
- An old man
- An old woman (do you see a trend lol?)
- A Lion
- Lady Gaga in a “meat” dress
Embrace the Flavors of Fall
Autumn is my favorite time of year when it comes to flavors and scents. Some ideas to try are:
- Order a PSL (pumpkin spice latte)
- Buy fresh apple cider
- Rim a glass with cinnamon and sugar and pour in a pumpkin beer
- Make candied apples with local apples
- Burn your favorite fall scented candles
- Make a fall “potpourri” by putting orange and apple slices in a small crockpot with cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and water, turn heat to high and keep the cover off (check in and add water as needed)
What are some of your favorite fall activities? Let know in the comments.
