My Story

Hi everyone, I am so glad you are here! One Girl Travel began as an idea several years ago… I always had this small flame inside of me that knew what I wanted to contribute to the world, but not until recently thanks to a life-changing trip to Paris, did I realize that flame has turned into a blaze!

A little about myself; my name is Alessia and I live on Long Island, NY. I am a solo traveler, baker, artist, gardener, and all around good-time-haver. Most importantly, I believe anyone, especially women, can do anything that they set their mind to.

You see, I have never been someone that would settle. Ever since I was a child I would push myself out of my comfort zone. The most significant moment for me was my junior year of high school, when I decided on a whim to join the boys wrestling team. Back in 2000, there were not many girls who wrestled, so when I decided to join it caused a bit of confusion and concerns. Regardless, even though it was probably the hardest thing I ever did, I stuck with it, and joined again the next year.

I’m sure you’re thinking, “what does wrestling have to do with traveling, Alessia?” and the answer is… for me, EVERYTHING.

Sometimes as you age and as you meet new people, those experiences and people could affect who you are as a person. Personally, I lost myself when I was in a mentally abusive relationship. Being told you’re not good enough or unattractive by someone you are in a relationship with can take away everything you thought you knew about yourself. Eventually, when the time came when the relationship ended, I had no idea who I was anymore. But I knew this… I was the only girl wrestler on the boys wrestling team, and if I can get through that I could get through anything! Most likely you didn’t wrestle, and if you did, then I am high-fiving you through this computer screen, sister! But I want you to think of a time that you persisted and fought through something that was difficult, and I want you to keep that memory with you to help you when you feel defeated.

So, with my wrestling memories strengthening my soul, I decided I needed a fresh start for my life. And with that thought, I booked my first ever solo vacation to Florida. I was never someone that did anything by herself, and I am not going to lie, I was scared to death booking that first trip. But it was exactly what I needed. It provided me with more proof that I can do anything I set my mind to, and that I could do it all on my own. Since that first solo vacation, I have traveled all over the Caribbean, Bermuda, Spain, Italy, France and Scotland.

The goal of One Girl Travel is to encourage women to go after what they desire in all aspects of their life, especially traveling. I know how much solo travel has changed my life. I want to be your support system, and hold your hand through the process while providing you with custom itineraries to make your trip unforgettable.
