A (Solo) Tiny House Getaway

August 13, 2020

Getaway House – Catskills East, NY

Trying to book a vacation during a pandemic isn’t easy. However, I was able to find somewhere that was social distance and dog friendly, when I booked with Getaway House!

Getaway House are tiny house cabins with 14 different locations throughout the U.S. Cabins are modern, and furnished with all the amenities of home.

The Experience

Experiencing the Getaway House was the ideal alone time escape that I was yearning for. It may have only been a 2.5 hour drive from Long Island, but the change of scenery made all the difference.

Upon arrival, I was provided with a code for the lock on the door by text message. Entering the house, I immediately noticed; firstly, the air conditioner (yay!). Secondly, the huge window next to the bed with an incredible view. Thirdly, the dog bowls, poop bags and doggie treats that were left out on the table for my two pups (so thoughtful!)

Outside of the cabin I was provided with a picnic table, 2 Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit (wood included). It was so nice to sit out by the fire and enjoy the sound of absolute silence.

Being in quarantine since March has allowed me to appreciate the small things in life. Having this time to relax with my dogs in nature was exactly what my soul was craving.

As the sun went down and the fire burned out, I witnessed the most incredible light display of fireflies. Watching the magical nighttime show of nature, while enjoying a bowl of freshly cooked pasta inside my cabin with my two best furry pals, made me appreciate this experience even more.

Although I only stayed one night, it was just enough time for me to unwind and relax. I do however recommend booking at least two nights to fully immerse yourself into nature and the cabin.

Not being able to travel due to COVID-19 has been difficult for me. Being able to go on this getaway and feel reassured that I am in a safe environment was a big deal.

The cabin itself was extremely clean, but I did take extra precautions by packing Lysol spray and Clorox wipes.

The entire experience was contact-less, as Getaway House sent me a text message when the cabin was available, and with the code for the lock.

Each cabin is located approximately 100 feet from each other, so you have plenty of room to social distance.
